Happy Halloween

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Halloween this year. We had a fun but busy one. This year I had to scramble around the house for Halloween costumes for the Chicklet’s. I refused to spend money on a costume in the stores for something that the girls would only wear one or two times.

Chicklet No. 1 was an angel. So appropriate for her. Chicklet No. 2 was a character from a Barbie move that she loves. Chicklet No. 1 was going to stay home with me and give out candy and not trick-or-treat but when she had to dress up for trunk-or-treat for Awana, she decided to go Halloween night too.

August Update

Hello everyone, I am so sorry that I have been M.I.A. over the last few months. We have been busy around here but not with anything blog worthy.

The chicklets started school at the first of August.

DSC_0794

They are loving school, but we are all having trouble getting back into the swing of things. Homework, reading, baths, hair, etc. We only had a few weeks of school with no afternoon activities before Awana started at church and girl scouts starts in a couple of weeks too. They also want to start taking violin lessons so our schedule is only getting busier.

Jamie and John Mark got married last weekend so I was busy getting ready for that also. I will blog on that this weekend too.

I will close this post with a few more summer pictures of the girls.

Summer is Here!

I am sorry that it has been so long between posts but other than our short trip to V-town, our days have been spent by the pool. As soon as the Chicklet’s wake up, they are checking the Weather Channel to see what the temp is for the day and if it is going to rain.

Here are a few pictures of them enjoying the summer fun.

They love the slides and diving board. I will post if we do anything interesting. Other than that, I am just going to enjoy the summer with the girls.

I am working on a few new projects so I will keep you posted on them though.

Easter Kittens

Last Saturday before we went out of town, Chicklet #1 went outside to feed Izzy (the stray that took up residence at our house over the winter) and found that she had had kittens. There were three and they were the cutest things ever. There was 2 calico’s and one tabby. The tabby and one calico had bobbed tails like their mom.

Sadly, when we got home on Sunday, both of the bobbed tail kittens had not made it. The chicklets were sad but Eric explained to them that there was probably something wrong with them and that was Gods way of taking care of them. They were okay after that.

DSC_0501

They named the kitten Checkers. It is so sweet. Its eyes are open and it is starting to move around more.

DSC_0509

If we leave the front door open too long, Izzy picks the kitten up and takes her into Chicklet #1’s bedroom and puts it on the pillows. It is so funny. We have to be quick or Izzy is in the house before we know it.

Kittens are so cute when they are little. Now we just need to find homes for both Izzy and the kitten.

Chicklets Worst Fear

We have decided that the chicklets need some responsibility around the house and the answer to that was a chore chart. We built one out of sheet metal and molding and put it on the wall by the back door.  Every time the chicklets walk by it, I hear a groan from each of them. I think it turned out great, but that is because it lessens my chores around the house.

DSC_0406

Each chicklet has a section that is divided into the days of the week so that we can keep up with the activities if each. They also have sections that are divided into weekly and daily chores. The middle section is for things like the lunch menu, birthday invitations, homework notes, etc. I have to say that I did not come up with this idea on my own. I got it from here.

Lets see how well and long I can get this to work. Wish me luck.

Let It Snow

Little did I know when I created the background for the blog this winter that it would be so appropriate. We in the South almost never get snow but in the last few years that has started to change. Needless to say, the Chicklet’s enjoyed watching the snow fall on Friday and waking up to a white morning on Saturday. They has snowball fights that froze them to the bone.DSC_0302It makes me cold just looking at the pictures.

DSC_0304 DSC_0305As you can see with all the snow, it is no wonder my living room looked like the laundry room for the next day.

DSC_0307It was pretty but I sure am glad it is gone. I do not drive in the snow. I don’t think  could live in the North were it snowed all of the time. I would never leave my house.

Check back tomorrow, I am going to post some pictures that I took outside on Saturday morning of the snow.

Roses for the Teachers

This year I pulled an old idea out of my head for the teachers gifts. I made them roses out of Kisses. I made these one year when I was in high school. I think my dad still has the ones that I made him in his office. DSC_0287After about 3 hours of wrapping the kisses in red cellophane, adding a wire stem, leave and lots of florist tape, I had a large stack of roses.

DSC_0293  In the end, I had a dozen roses each for the six teachers that the chicklet’s have. When I took them to the school, I was stopped in the halls several times to comment on how cute they were. I think they were a big hit.DSC_0294 Happy Valentines Day!

Valentine Treats

This year I made my famous Rice Crispy Treat Hearts for the Chicklet’s to take to their friends at school.DSC_0284I made sheets of the treats and then used my heart cookie cutter to cut the treats out. After I had them cut, I melted red chocolate and drizzled it over the hearts. DSC_0288After the chocolate was dried, I put them in a cellophane bag and tied them with curly ribbon. all of the kids in the girls class love to get these for each holiday.

DSC_0290I hope all of you have a wonderful Valentines Day.

2nd Nine Weeks Report Cards

The Chicklets brought home their report cards the other day. Once again they both did really well.

Chicklet #1 received all A’s and 1 B this nine weeks. She received a B in reading.  Chicklet #2 received exceeds and achieved in all of her classes. She had more exceeds than anything which means that she is performing above the required expectations for her class. Both Eric and I were very proud of them. Lets hope that they can keep up the good work.

Sweet Treats

This year the chicklet’s and I had loads of fun baking all kinds of goodies.  I went overboard but it sure was good.

DSC_0201

We made fudge with and without pecans.

DSC_0209

We made my favorite, Date Balls.

We also made a Butter Pecan Cake that I did not take a picture of. Chicklet #1 said that she did not know me anymore because she had never seen me bake so much. If I would have had time, I would have made sugar cookies with them too. If anyone would like the recipes, just let me know.

Goodie, Goodie Gumdrop

On Thursday when the Chicklets got home from school, I had everything to make our gumdrop trees for the kitchen. The chicklets look forward to this every year. I have to buy an extra bag of spice drops to have enough of them to cover the trees.

DSC_0069DSC_0063Chicklet #1 made hers into a pattern at first. It turned out really cute.

DSC_0059Don’t you love the Kool-Aid stain on her upper lip.

DSC_0061DSC_0075These are the finished trees. They sit on our kitchen table. I decorate the whole kitchen in a bright red and lime green.  Now I just have to keep Eric from eating all of the gumdrops. I find more and more holes in the trees as we get closer to Christmas.

Happy Halloween

It was raining this year but the chicklets still had loads of fun trick-or-treating. They stood outside with their umbrellas waiting on Eric to take them around to the houses. Chicklet #1 was a good witch and chicklet #2 was a princess.

Halloween-2009

We hope all of you had a good and safe Halloween this year.

Sweet Dreams

Last night Eric went to go and check on the chicklets because they were quiet and this is what he found...

Chicklet #2 had fallen asleep on her bed with the lights on. Eric thought it would be funny to scare her and this was the result...

Boy she can pout. Eric calls her "Duck Lips" all of the time because of it.

Go Team, Go!

This past weekend was Chicklet #2’s last game for the season. Here are some pictures from that game.

Group-Photo

The Team

Ready,-Set

Before the game, the girls hold a banner for the guys to run through.

Ready,-OK

Her turn leading the cheer. The little girl beside her is one of the coaches daughters and she was the teams unofficial member. She would get out and do all of the cheers and the dance with them. She was so cute.

Pyramid

They did pyramids and because of her height, Chicklet #2 had to stand in the back. She loved it though.

I am going to try and put a video up but I don’t know if I will be able to. So stay tuned.

Report Cards Are Here…

Report cards came home the other day from the chicklets school and I am proud to say that they did great.

Chicklet #1 had all A’s and one B. Her B was in advanced math and it was an 89. She had a 100 for the 9 weeks in Social Studies.

Chicklet #2 had all P’s and CA’s. The P is for progressing at level and the CA is for consistently achieves. She scored above grade level in writing and in the money portion of math. I guess she will know how to spend money like her mama. Lord help us all.

They make their parents proud!
